A Light Beneath the Crack

[A Light Beneath the Crack] Is despair really the only thing that can emerge from a crack? Sometimes, familiar thoughts and beliefs begin to shift, and it feels as though the person we used to be is slowly falling apart. It can be painful and unfamiliar to see parts of ourselves change when we once thought they would always stay the same. Yet calling that crack and what emerges from it ’despair‘ is shaped by the way we see it. The pain is real, but it does not have to be the only meaning that change holds. Blue currents and pastel light flow from the deer’s fractured body. Through its black-and-white form and the colour spreading from within, I wanted to express how new possibilities can emerge even through pain. Being different from who we once were does not mean that every change has been for the worse. Through that opening, we may let go of something we have held onto for a long time, or discover a part of ourselves we never knew. I hope this piece offers a little comfort to anyone moving through a turning point in life. Perhaps we can give ourselves a little more time before deciding what this crack will come to mean💖
